Julien, Canada Women's Soccer Headed to Olympics

B.C., Jan. 28, 2012 -- Former James Madison women's soccer All-America Christina
"Corky" Julien (JMU '10) and her Canada teammates have
booked a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Julien started for Canada in Friday's 3-1 win over Mexico in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament semifinals. The victory sends Canada to Sunday's championship game (8 p.m. ET) vs. the United States. Both finalists earn qualifying berths in the 2012 Olympics.
The semifinal was played in front of 23,000 at B.C. Place, a CONCACAF record for a women's game.
On her Twitter account, Julien wrote "Tonight my dreams came true. What an unbelievable experience. I love my team."
The 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, Julien completed her collegiate career ranked second on JMU's career goals list (44), second on the career points list (102) and tied 18th on the career assist list (14). Julien scored a JMU-record 19 career game-winning goals from 2006-09.
She was a starter on Canada's gold-medal team in last fall's Pan American Games and played for Canada in the 2011 World Cup in Germany. She has 35 international appearances with Canada since joining the team in February 2009.
"I am very excited to welcome the women's soccer team to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team. They have earned this wonderful opportunity with stellar play in Vancouver. The payoff will come this summer, when they take the field in London to continue their quest for Olympic success," Mark Tewksbury, Chef de Mission of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team, said.
"These are focused, driven, talented women, who are one step closer to achieving their Olympic Dream. They should be very proud of what they've accomplished thus far and I know they have even bigger goals during the tournament at the Olympic Games in London," Sylvie Bernier, Assistant Chef de Mission of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team, said.
"We are very proud of our outstanding women's soccer team and are excited to see them take on the world this summer in London. This team ended 2011 on a high note, winning gold at the Pan American Games. They have maintained the momentum and will have the entire country supporting them all the way to the Olympic Games and beyond," Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, said.
