HARRISONBURG, Va. - In her first competitive meet this season, junior Kelsey Seymour (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) turned in a time of 23:12.52 to take a 17th-place finish at the William & Mary Tribe Open 6k on Saturday.
Of the 69 runners from seven universities, just five Dukes raced in Williamsburg, Va. Following behind Seymour was fellow junior Erin Lopresti (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) in 31st place with a time of 23:57.25. Senior Jacki Ferrance (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) crossed the line just 10 seconds later in 36th place.
In just their fourth collegiate races, freshmen Emily Cole (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) and Laura Dobbs (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) rounded out the day for Madison. Cole completed the course in 24:34.56 (44th place), and Dobbs finished in 56th place with a time of 25:59.53.
Loyola (Md.)'s Jackie D'Antonio won the individual title, turning in a 21:46.15 time. Closely behind were Petra Kubesova (UMES) in 21:50.98 and Michelle Brito (W&M) in 21:54.67. Rounding out the top-five were William & Mary's Lanie Smith (22:07.90) and Fordham's Anisa Arsenault (22:18.78).
The Dukes compiled 145 points as a team, earning them a fifth-place finish. Host William & Mary finished first as a team with 33 points, followed by Loyola (Md.) with 59 points and Fordham with 66 points.
JMU will come back together for the CAA Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27. The women are set to begin the race at 11 a.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
