Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 27, 2012 – The James Madison swimming and diving team won four individual events, but dropped both ends of a tightly-contested double-dual meet against Villanova and West Virginia at the Villanova Swim Complex on Saturday.

WVU went 2-0 on the day, beating JMU 163-137 and Villanova 171-128. Villanova slipped past Madison 159.50-139.50 to drop the Dukes to 2-2 in dual meets this season.

Senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) earned two individual event titles to power the diving team to a strong performance. She scored a 305.35 on the one-meter board to slip past West Virginia's Haily Vande Poel for first-place points while sophomore Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron) took third with a 282.75. Helfrich again was the only diver to break 300 points in the three-meter dive, scoring a 320.10 to dominate that event. Savage was fourth with a 260.45 and freshman Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) claimed fifth by scoring a 235.05.

Madison's other individual event victories came from junior Kelsey Holmgaard (Roanoke, Va./George Mason) and sophomore Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield). Holmgaard touched the wall at 2:06.67 in the 200-yard individual medley. Won took top billing in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 104.61. Won also had a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.76) and was fifth in the 200 IM (2:10.12). Holmgaard was just 0.29 seconds back of Won in the 200 breast to claim third.

Sophomore Susanne Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) timed a 23.98 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 52.81 in the 100-yard freestyle to highlight other performances on the day for Madison. She finished second in both events.

Senior Caroline Burns (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) added a third-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke. She also swam the lead leg in the 400-yard medley relay to help pace the Dukes to second in the day's first event. She was joined by Won, Gingher and senior Andrea Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) to time a 3:50.40.

Madison took third in the only other relay event, the 200-yard freestyle. Burns and Gingher teamed up with freshmen Carli Molano (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and Camilla Czulada (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson) to touch the wall at 1:36.77.

The Dukes return to the pool next weekend in Newark, Del., as they compete in t
