Lacrosse Wins 18-6 over Wales National Team

HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 14, 2012 -- The James Madison lacrosse team scored the game's first nine goals and went on to beat the Wales National Team 18-6 in a preseason exhibition Tuesday night at Bridgeforth Stadium.
Ten Dukes scored in the game, led by three goals and an assist from three players -- redshirt junior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll), senior Ashley Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and senior Monica Zabel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron).
Wales was playing its third game in 24 hours on the team's American tour. The Welsh team played at Loyola (Md.) Monday night and faced Division III Bridgewater College Tuesday evening at Bridgeforth.
Ancarrow and senior defender Cally Chakrian (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led the Dukes with four ground balls each, and senior Caitlin McHugh (Westminster, Md./Mercy) finished with a game-high four draw controls. Chakrian contributed a game-high four caused turnovers, and Ancarrow and junior Amanda Mathews (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each finished with three caused tunovers.
The Dukes, ranked ninth in the preseason Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, open regular-season play with games at California on Feb. 23 and at Stanford on Feb. 25. JMU's first home game is Feb. 29 vs. Virginia Tech (4 p.m.).
