Men's Soccer Hands Drexel First CAA Loss

HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 26, 2013 - Tim Whitebread (McLean, Va./McLean) and junior Josh Grant (Plymouth, England/Torpoint College) scored goals in the second half to lead James Madison to a 2-1 win over visiting Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer game Saturday night.
The Dukes dealt the Dragons their first conference loss of the season and improved to 6-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the CAA. The Dragons fell to 7-7-2 and 3-1-1.
Following a scoreless first half, Drexel got on the scoreboard first with a goal Nathan Page in the 57th minute. The goal was Page's team-leading fifth of the season/
Whitebread picked a good time to register his first career goal, tying the game in the 68th minute, The junior scored the equalizer from 23 yards out.
Grant tallied the game-winner for the Dukes in the 73rd minute. He received a great cross from senior Karel Manrau (Neuchatel, Switzerland/Jean-Piaget) and finished with a header for his team-high sixth goal of the year.
Colin Newcity (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) made four saves to improve to 2-0 in goal this season. He saved his best save for last, making a diving stop on a Drexel shot in the closing seconds.
The win was the 468th of coach Tom Martin's career. He leads all active Divisision I coaches and is fifth in Division I history. He has picked up 349 of those wins at JMU.
The Dukes continue conference play with a game at College of Charleston on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
