LEWISBURG, Pa., Feb. 2, 2013 – Senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) placed first in both diving events to highlight a dominating performance for the James Madison diving team in the Bucknell Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., Saturday.
JMU finished first and second on both boards and added a third-place showing on the three-meter board. The diving events were the only events the Dukes participated in on Saturday.
Helfrich scored a 295.05 to blow away the field on the one-meter, beating sophomore teammate Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron) by 17.05 points. Savage finished second with 278.00 points. Freshmen Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Lauren Hadley (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) claimed eighth and ninth, respectively. Alexander scored a 224.80 while Hadley totaled 219.60.
Helfrich, Savage and Alexander claimed the top three spots in the three-meter board, with Helfrich placing first. She scored a 297.40, more than 20 points ahead of Savage in second. Savage scored a 276.55 and Alexander added a 258.90. Hadley finished 12th (201.45).
The JMU swimming and diving team heads to Charlottesville, Va., Feb. 15-16 for the UVA Cavalier Invitational in the final tune up before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
