Game Plan
- After a 2-0 showing on the road, JMU returns home Saturday afternoon, Dec. 20, for a matchup with the Hampton Lady Pirates at 2 p.m. inside the JMU Convocation Center. The game is the first of a doubleheader as the JMU men's basketball team faces High Point at 5 p.m.
- A ticket for either game of the doubleheader gains you admittance into both contests.
- If you have a parking pass for both men's and women's basketball, please park in the lot assigned for your men's basketball pass for both contests. If you have a parking pass for just the women's game, you will be able to access R-lot and will not be required to move your car in between games. R-lot passholders will not have access to E-lot, as that section of parking is spot specific for men's games.
- Saturday's game is presented by United Bank. It also marks the second and final women's basketball game of the Toys For Tots drive. Bring one new, unopened toy to be donated to the Marine Corps Toys For Tots and receive a general admission ticket to the game.
- Saturday is also JMU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day presented by Farmers and Merchants Bank. JMU faculty and staff members can receive two (2) free tickets to the game. Contact the JMU Athletics Ticket Office (540-568-3853) for more information or to claim your tickets.
- Live video will be provided on MadiZone HD SportsNet presented by the JMU Alumni Association online at JMUSports.com/Madizone. Live audio for the contest will be available through the nTelos Wireless Network on WHBG 1360 locally in Harrisonburg, Va., as well as online at JMUSports.com/Madizone.
Scouting Report
- JMU wraps up the home portion of its non-conference slate with Saturday's meeting against Hampton. The Dukes have won 14 consecutive games at the JMU Convocation Center, all in front of at least 2,000 fans. The streak is the sixth longest in the nation.
- This is the fourth meeting all-time between these two Virginia schools, with JMU holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. The last time these two sides met, Hampton came away with a 69-64 victory at the JMU Convocation Center over the Dukes on Nov. 11, 2010, despite Dawn Evans' 25-point game.
- On Monday night, JMU extended its winning streak to four games with a 69-62 victory on the road against Ohio. Junior guard Precious Hall scored a game-high 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting, including a 4-of-8 showing from range. Redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor notched her fifth double-double of the season in scoring 13 points while pulling down 18 rebounds, with half of the boards on the offensive glass. Her 18 rebounds were one off her career high (19), which she set Nov. 23 in an 80-64 victory over Pittsburgh at the Convo.
- Junior guard Ashley Perez tallied nine points and eight rebounds in her debut with the Dukes on Monday night. She has sat out the previous two semesters due to NCAA transfer rules, coming to JMU from St. John's.
- Senior forward Toia Giggetts needs just 25 points to pass the 1,000-point plateau. She is looking to become the second player to accomplish the feat this season, as Hall surpassed the figure on Dec. 7 in a 73-57 win over Davidson in North Carolina.
- Okafor leads the country in offensive rebounds, averaging 6.0 per game. She is currently leading the league in overall rebounding and is fourth in the country with 13.2 boards per game. She is also fourth in the conference with 1.3 blocks per contest. Hall, who was selected as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year, is leading the CAA in points, averaging 23.9 per contest through the first nine games (Sixth-best in the nation) and shooting 93.3 percent from the free throw line (13th-best nationally). Junior point guard Angela Mickens is leading the CAA in assists with an average of 7.1 per game through the first nine games (fifth-best nationally). Her assist-to-turnover ratio sits at 2.46, which is good for second in the conference and 36th in the country.
- Overall, JMU leads the conference in scoring (76.1 ppg), scoring margin (+11), free throw percentage (.761), rebounding offense (45.8), rebounding margin (+11.6) offensive rebounds (163) and offensive rebounding percentage (.428). With a current four-game winning streak, the Dukes have the longest win streak in the CAA.
- Hampton enters the contest with a 3-6 record and comes in following a 69-49 home loss to No. 1 South Carolina on Wednesday night.
- Malia Tate-DeFreitas is the only player averaging double figures on offense, putting up 18.7 points per game through the first nine games for the Lady Pirates. Down low, Tyler Hobgood averages 8.0 rebounds per game. At the controls for the Lady Pirates is Kenia Cole, who is averaging 4.3 assists per game while scoring 8.9 points per game, which is good for second on the team behind Tate-DeFreitas.
- In the losing effort to South Carolina on Wednesday, Tate-DeFreitas scored a team-high 19 points while Kyani White notched 11 points to round out the double-figure scoring for Hampton. Hobgood pulled down a team-high five rebounds, though the Lady Pirates were outrebounded 48-20 by the top team in the nation.
