Scouting Report
- Wedneday's contest will be the 90th all-time meeting between JMU and Richmond with the Dukes holding a convincing 58-29-2 record in the series. JMU earned the win in last year's meeting by the final of 78-69 on the road. The contest marks the third game of the year for the Dukes against a team either ranked or receiving votes in a major poll this season.
- JMU is currently ranked No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches poll with a new poll coming out Tuesday. Last week, Madison was No. 1 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, receiving 30 of 31 possible first-place votes. Richmond is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches poll.
- Two JMU players have won CAA Player of the Week in the early goings already this year. Junior guard Precious Hall earned the honor last week after dropping 34 points in the 80-64 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday, Nov. 22. Redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor took home the honor after the first week of competition after posting a double-double in the opening game against then-No. 23 UCLA and pulling down 14 more rebounds two days later in a win against St. Bonaventure.
- Hall, who was selected as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year, is leading the CAA in points, averaging 24.2 per contest through the first six games. She is shooting 96.6 percent from the free throw line. Okafor is currently leading the league in rebounding with 13.7 boards per game and is on top of the conference with an average of 1.7 blocks per contest. Junior guard Angela Mickens is leading the CAA in assists with an average of 7.5 per game through the first six games.
- Overall, JMU leads the conference in scoring (77.3 ppg), scoring margin (+10.8), free throw percentage (.766), rebounding offense (45.0) and defense (32.7), rebounding margin (+12.3) and offensive rebounding percentage (.458).
- Richmond enters the contest 3-2 and on a two-game losing skid after opening the season 3-0. Away from home, the Spiders are 0-2 after losing both games they played last week in Las Vegas.
- Three Spiders average in double figures to spearhead the Richmond attack with Genevieve Okoro leading the way at 12.6 points per game. She is closely followed by Janelle Hubbard and Lauren Tolson with 12.4 and 11.4 ppg, respectively.Â
