MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., March 20, 2014 – James Madison senior swimmer Shannon Dubay (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) participated in her first of three events at the NCAA Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis, Minn., Thursday.
Dubay placed 62nd in the 200-yard individual medley out of a field of 66 to get her NCAA Championships underway. The senior completed the four-stroke swim a time of 2:04.27 during Thursday morning's preliminaries.
Dubay is the second swimmer in program history to advance to the NCAA Championships, joining junior Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) who qualified in both breaststrokes last season. She has two more swims over the next two days. On Friday, she'll swim in the 100-yard breaststroke before completing the event on Saturday in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Georgia's Melanie Margalis placed first in the prelims, touching the wall in 1:54.15. Stanford's Maya DiRado was right behind her in a time of 1:54.20. They'll compete with 14 other swimmers in the finals of the 200 IM this evening.
Day two of the NCAA Championships gets underway at noon on Friday with preliminaries followed by a finals session starting at 8 p.m. The prelims are available to watch live through University of Minnesota video streaming with the finals available on ESPN3.
