CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The James Madison women's golf team remains  18th after the second round of the Hurricane Invitational, March 4. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Miami, is being played at the Biltmore Golf Course (Par 71 – 6,092 yards) in Coral Gables, Fla.
Playing with just four players due to a late individual withdrawal, the Dukes shot a 29-over 313 and is currently at 57-over 625. In a tournament that includes three teams ranked in the top 30 nationally as well as the top-ranked junior college squad in the nation, Iowa State shot a 2-over 571 and moved up to the lead at 3-over 571. Northwestern improved to second at 6-over 574, with host Miami third at 11-over 579. Mercer and Campbell are tied for fourth at 17-over 585.
Junior Maria Andrea Legaspi (Quezon City, Phillippines/St. Paul College-Pasig) shot a team tournament-best 1-over 72 in the second round and moved up to a tie for 43rd at 9-over 151. Legaspi had three birdies and four bogeys on the day for her total. Senior Ginger Mak (North Point, Hong Kong/The International School of Macao) and junior Shabril Brewer (Herndon, Va./Westfield) are tied for 67th at 13-over 155, while freshman Nicola Haynes (Newcastle-Upon-Tyle, England) is tied for 90th at 22-over 164. Iowa State's Sasikarn On-lam shot her second straight 2-under 69 and is in the 36-hole lead at 4-under 138. Avery George is in second one shot back at 3-under 139, with Miami's Daniela Darquea one shot further back at 2-under 140.
The third round of the three-day event begins is a shotgun start at 8 a.m., with the Dukes going off 15-17 and playing with Longwood and Maryland. Live scoring is available at www.golfstatresults.com.Â
