HARRISONBURG, Va. - More than 800 James Madison University students came out to take part as the JMU Football program and athletic department hosted the first-annual Student Appreciation Day. Coupled with Juniors Day for the football program, the event celebrated the great support that the program enjoys from the students and that new Head Coach Everett Withers will see in Bridgeforth Stadium this fall.
There were several great opportunities taken advantage of by the students in attendance. Many took advantage of the locker room being open and the opportunity to try on shoulders pads and helmets and a few even faced off like the players. Others also had the opportunity to get involved in the practice, whether helping in drills or getting the chance to take a snap and possibly score a touchdown for the Dukes.
"We hope to continue to build a relationship with our students and Athletics," Stephen Pugh, JMU's Director of Athletics Marketing said. "Students are essential to the success of JMU Athletics and their energy and passion are key to the atmosphere in Bridgeforth Stadium. Events like today's hopefully help build the bond between the team and the student body."
Attached to this are a photo gallery that captures some of the excitement and fun of today's event. Next week, the JMU Football program will wrap up its spring drills with the 2014 Spring Game at Bridgeforth Stadium, slated to start at 2 p.m.
