JMU's Steele Tabbed CAA Defensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Coming off one of the most prolific defensive performances of his career, James Madison redshirt junior linebacker Gage Steele was named Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Steele tied his career high with a game-best 18 tackles in JMU's 38-20 victory against Stony Brook last Saturday, a number which also matched the CAA's best tackling feat of the 2015 season. The Front Royal, Va., native also produced 1.5 tackles for loss in a game that saw the Dukes limit the Seawolves to just 109 rushing yards (2.5 per carry).
He leads the CAA with 11.0 tackles per game and has already equaled his 2014 tackles total (55). This is the second time the linebacker has been recognized with a conference weekly award, as he was named Rookie of the Week after recording 18 tackles for the first time against Albany back on Oct. 5, 2013.
The Dukes have now won six CAA weekly awards this season, including three Defensive Players of the Week. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Andrew Ankrah was honored last week (Sept. 28) while junior safety Raven Greene was the league's top defender after week one (Sept. 7).
JMU opens a two-game road trip this Saturday, Oct. 10, when it treks to Towson for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The game, to be played at Johnny Unitas Stadium, will be televised on Comcast SportsNet and coverage on the JMU/nTelos Wireless Sports Network will begin at 2 p.m.
