Neutral-Site Bout with West Virginia Awaits JMU in Charleston

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

West Virginia opened its season on Friday night as well, starting the year with a 107-61 home victory over Northern Kentucky at the WVU Coliseum. The victory marked the Mountaineers 500th all-time victory in the facility.
WVU forced the Norse into 30 turnovers in the contest, as the Mountaineers shot just 33-of-68 (48.5%) from the field and 6-of-25 from behind the arc en route to clearing the century mark.
Sophomore guard Jevon Carter led the way for the WVU offense on the day with 24 points, while junior forward Devin Williams (18p, 15r) and senior forward Jonathan Holton (14p, 12r) both posted double-doubles on the evening.

SERIES HISTORY

Monday evening will be the first contest between the Dukes and Mountaineers since a Dec. 18, 2004 contest in Morgantown that saw WVU cruise to a 77-48 victory.
Despite having not faced each other in more than a decade, the two teams have a lengthy 10-game series that stretches back to a March 17, 1983 game on a neutral court in Greensboro, N.C. JMU took the victory in that bout, downing the Mountaineers, 57-50.
The last JMU win in the series came on Dec. 5, 2001, a 91-75 victory for the Dukes in Harrisonburg.

LAST TIME OUT

James Madison used a 15-3 run over the final 3:39 to open the 2015-16 season with an 87-75 win at Richmond on Friday night at the Robins Center. The Dukes, who start the year 1-0 for the first time since 2011-12, shot 50.8-percent (30-for-59) from the field on the evening, including an 11-for-24 clip from beyond the arc, while outrebounding the Spiders 40-23.
Four Dukes scored in double figures, led by junior guard Shakir Brown. Brown, who joined the Dukes as a transfer for 2015-16, made a statement in his first action, going off for 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
Senior guard Ron Curry started his year where he left off in 2014-15, scoring 19 points and dishing out eight assists. Down the stretch, Curry hit a trio of free throws that extended the Dukes' lead to 11 with less than a minute left and put the game out of reach.
Junior forward Tom Vodanovich scored a ruthlessly efficient 15 points, going 6-for-7 from the field and drilling the only three three-pointers that he attempted.
