SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

FIU has started its season with a pair of non-conference wins, handing Florida Memorial a 67-51 loss on Monday night after opening its season with a 71-39 win over Trinity Baptist.
The Panthers played stiff defense against Florida Memorial in their last contest, holding the Lions to a 26.2 field goal percentage (17-for-65) and a 19.2-percent (5-for-26) clip from the three-point line.
Senior forward Daviyon Draper led the way for FIU on Monday night, racking up 19 points on the evening, while senior center Adrian Diaz posted a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

SERIES HISTORY

The Dukes and Panthers have met just once in program history, a Nov. 22, 2009 contest on a neutral court in Miami, Fla. JMU triumphed in that contest, handing the Panthers an 81-68 loss.
In that game, then-sophomore forward Julius Wells went 8-for-16 from the field and 6-for-10 from behind the arc en route to a 23-point, 12-rebound evening, marking his first double-double of the 2009-10 season.
FIU marks the fourth-shortest all-time series of any 2015-16 JMU opponent, ahead of only Oral Roberts, UT Martin and Western Michigan, none of whom have ever faced the Dukes.

LAST TIME OUT

Up against a fierce, full-court defensive effort from West Virginia, James Madison fell to the Mountaineers 86-73 in non-conference men's basketball action at the Charleston Civic Center on Monday night. The Dukes stayed within striking distance for almost the entire contest, keeping the margin under 14 points until the five-minute mark and drawing as close as seven with 10:43 to play and nine with just 6:18 on the clock.
Junior guard Shakir Brown, who had been named CAA Player of the Week earlier in the day, picked up where he left off, scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing seven rebounds for JMU. Brown is averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per outing through two games as a Duke.
Junior forward Dimitrije Cabarkapa and senior guard Winston Grays III both picked up their first double-digit scoring efforts of the year, tallying 13 and 12 points, respectively, while senior guard Ron Curry battled through foul trouble to score 11 points on the wings of 3-for-5 three-point shooting.
