JMU’s Jordan Brown and Brandon Ravenel Garner CAA Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison scored three touchdowns on defense and special teams last weekend and a pair of players were honored as redshirt sophomore cornerback Jordan Brown was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week while junior receiver Brandon Ravenel earned Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announce Monday.
It is the first weekly conference award for each of their respective careers and the Dukes racked up 10 CAA awards during the 2015 regular season.
Brown had his first career interception which he returned 45 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of JMU's 39-29 win over Villanova. He also tallied six tackles and broke up a pass. The Dukes' defense had a +4 turnover margin, which they converted into 21 points off takeaways.
Ravenel scored his first career kickoff return for a touchdown as he returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a score. He also caught six passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. His production moved him into eighth place all-time at JMU in career receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,496).
The Dukes finished the regular season with a 9-2 overall record and shared the CAA championship with a 6-2 conference mark. It was JMU's fifth league title and the first since 2008.
On Sunday, the NCAA Selection Committee revealed that JMU earned the No. 5 overall seed and a first-round bye for the 2015 FCS playoffs.
Madison will embark on its 12th postseason journey in its 44-year football history on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. when it hosts the winner of this Saturday's Colgate at New Hampshire matchup.
