SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- College of Charleston has won six of its last seven contests, capturing an 86-68 win at Campbell on Tuesday, Dec. 22, to improve to 8-3 on the year and close out its non-conference schedule.
- The Cougars' game in Harrisonburg will be their third contest in a four-game road trip. Charleston faced Miami (Fla.) and Campbell away from home before the holidays before opening its CAA schedule with trips to JMU and William & Mary.
- Junior guard Canyon Barry, the reigning and three-time CAA Player of the Week, has paced the Charleston offense so far, averaging 22.1 points per game for the Cougars, a tally that ranks No. 14 in the country. Barry scored 30 points in the Cougars' victory at Campbell and has seven 20+-point outings already this season.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday's game marks just the six meeting between the two teams in an all-time series that dates back to just 2007.
- After that Dec. 30, 2007, contest, a 76-53 loss for the Dukes in Charleston, the two schools have faced each other four times as CAA foes after the Cougars joined the league for the 2013-14 season.
- The Dukes have not lost to the Cougars in Harrisonburg, downing College of Charleston in both contests at the Convocation Center, including a 68-61 victory in last year's edition.
- That contest, which was postponed one day due to a winter storm, saw then-sophomore Yohanny Dalembert score a career-high 21 points and grab a game-high eight boards to pace three Dukes in double figures and earn JMU its fifth straight win.
LAST TIME OUT
- Five players scored in double figures for the first time in more than a year as James Madison closed out its non-conference slate with a 73-53 win over Mount St. Mary's in men's basketball action on Dec. 22 at the JMU Convocation Center.
- The victory, which lifted the Dukes to 10-3 as they head into Colonial Athletic Association play, marked the eighth in a row for JMU, its longest win streak since winning nine straight during the 2010-11 season and just four shy of the program record of 12, set during the 1989-90 campaign. The Mountaineers fell to 3-9 with the loss.
- Junior forward Dimitrije Cabarkapa led the way on offense for the Dukes, posting his first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. The Novi Sad, Serbia, native has now made at least one three-pointer in 21 straight games after going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc in a 6-for-10 performance from the field.
