SCOUTING THE HERD
- Marshall will enter Sunday's contest at 0-5 after dropping a pair of games this past week, losing at Ohio (85-70) on Tuesday, Dec. 1, before falling to Akron at home (75-65) on Friday, Dec. 4.
- This will be the Herd's fourth game on the road in 17 days, having played just two games at home. Marshall's average margin of defeat in road trips to Tennessee, Morehead State and Ohio sits at 16.3.
- Marshall has three players averaging at least 13 points per game so far, led by senior forward James Kelly's 14.8. Junior guard Stevie Browning and junior forward Ryan Taylor are chipping in 13.6 and 13.0 points per game, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
- This will be the fourth game in the all-time series between JMU and Marshall after meeting just nine days prior and facing each other in a home-and-home series during the 2010-11 season.
- The two teams split the series five years ago, with each team winning on its home court, but JMU earned an 89-75 win in Huntington earlier this season to take a 2-1 advantage.
- In that game, junior guard Shakir Brown (25p/14r) and junior forward Yohanny Dalembert (23p/15r) both tallied double-doubles, marking the first time JMU notched two in the same game since an overtime loss to Hofstra on Jan. 24, 2011.
LAST TIME OUT
- Senior guard Ron Curry racked up a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds on December 3 to lead James Madison to a hard-fought 63-57 win over Western Michigan in non-conference men's basketball action at the JMU Convocation Center.
- The victory, JMU's fourth in a row, moves the Dukes to 6-3 on the season, while Western Michigan falls to 3-5.
- Madison, which entered halftime trailing by two points, came up with its best defensive effort of the season, holding the Broncos to 57 points on just 33.3-percent (20-for-60) shooting from the field on the evening, including a 28.1-percent (9-for-32) performance after the break.
- After three ties in the opening minutes of the second half, junior guard Shakir Brown drilled a transition three-pointer from the left corner to give the Dukes a 36-33 lead that they would not relinquish. JMU used that shot to start an 11-2 run that opened up a nine-point lead with 10:25 to play. After the Dukes pushed the lead to 11 points on a jumper from Curry at the 5:15 mark, the Broncos would not get closer than four the rest of the way.
