No. 17 James Madison Gets 16-7 Road Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – No. 17 James Madison took a close game at the intermission and dominated the second half to earn a 16-7 victory at William & Mary, April 25, in the regular season finale for both teams. With the Colonial Athletic Association win, the Dukes improved to 13-4 and 5-1 in the CAA while the Tribe fell to 5-11 and 1-5 in the league, concluding its season.

After the two teams battled in the first half to a 6-4 JMU halftime lead, the visitors took control in the second half, scoring six of the first seven goals of the half to go up 12-5 with just under 12 minutes to play in the match. William & Mary got one goal back less than a minute later, but the Dukes controlled the remainder of the match, scoring four of the last five goals to earn the victory.
JMU dominated the major offensive categories, outshooting William & Mary 31-15, including 23-11 shots on goal. Madison also held a large advantage on groundballs, 22-12 and forced turnovers, as the Tribe turned it over 18 times to JMU's 12. The Dukes were also perfect on their 17 clear opportunities, while the Tribe was just 12-of-16.
Senior attacker Stephanie Finley led the offensive attack with four goals and one assist on five shots and had two draw controls. Junior midfielder Jaci Gordon had three goals and three assists, while redshirt-sophomore attacker Betsy Angel chipped in three goals and one assist. Senior goalkeeper Schylar Healy got her 13th win of the year, making four saves on the day.
The Tribe was led by Ellen Shaffrey with three goals and one assist, while Shannon Quinn added a pair of goals. Meredith Crizer took the loss in goal, making seven saves in the game.
Madison is the No. 2 seed for the 2015 CAA Lacrosse Championship and will take on No. 3 seed Delaware on Friday, May 1 in the semifinals. The two teams will play at 7 p.m. at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Del., with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game against the winner of No. 1 Hofstra and No. 4 Towson.
