SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- Northeastern is 11-6 this season and has started its CAA slate 3-1 after besting Elon (86-79), UNCW (65-63) and Delaware (88-56) before dropping a 78-60 decision at William & Mary this past Saturday.
- The Huskies are 4-5 in true road games in 2015-16. Northeastern's five losses have come at Miami (Ohio), Detroit, Western Michigan, NC State and William & Mary, but the Huskies also own a 78-77 win at #15 Miami on Nov. 27.
- A pair of Preseason All-CAA picks have led the Huskies' offense so far this season, with senior guard David Walker, a first team selection, and senior forward Quincy Ford, a second team pick, are averaging 17.6 ppg and 17.1 ppg, respectively. Ford also leads the way on the glass, pulling down a team-best 7.4 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
- Northeastern holds a commanding 14-5 lead in the all-time series between the two squads, which began during the 1977-78 campaign and features just two non-conference bouts prior to the Huskies joining the CAA for the 2005-06 season.
- JMU has won two of the seven contests between the teams in Boston, earning a 49-46 win in a Jan. 29, 2014, defensive struggle and taking home a 68-65 win on Dec. 1, 2007.
- The Huskies swept both games last season, capturing a 65-59 win in Harrisonburg on Jan. 8, before notching an 82-59 victory in Boston on Jan. 22. Then-junior guard Ron Curry averaged 16.5 points per game across the two contests, while then-sophomore forward Yohanny Dalembert tallied 11.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg.
LAST TIME OUT
- James Madison turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season on Jan. 9, holding Towson to just 34.6% (18-for-52) shooting from the floor as the Dukes notched a 73-59 win at the JMU Convocation Center.
- JMU, which improved to 12-5 (2-2 CAA) with its first home CAA win, shot 41.3% (19-for-46) from the field on the day, including a 41.2% (7-for-17) clip from the three-point line. The Dukes also held the Tigers, who fell to 11-6 (2-2 CAA) with the loss, scoreless for a 7:54 stretch that spanned from the 4:14 mark in the first half to the 16:20 mark in the second half.
- The Dukes' 17 three-point attempts were tied for the least of any game this season, as JMU repeatedly drove the lane for shorter looks, drawing fouls when those weren't available. On the game, the Dukes went 28-for-34 (82.4%) from the charity stripe, setting a season-high for made free throws and tying their most attempts on the year.
DUKES ON TV
- Thursday's contest will mark JMU's second appearance on television this season, as the Dukes are slated to appear live on multiple regional networks: Mid-Atlantic (CSN-MA+), Philadelphia/Delaware (TCN-P) and New York (SNY). The New England Region (CSN-NE) will also carry the contest, but the broadcast will be tape delayed (1/15, 12:30 a.m.) and then replayed (1/16, 12:30 p.m.) due to prior conflicts in the schedule. The game will also be broadcast live on CAA.TV. All times are Eastern and stations are subject to change, so check your local listings.
