PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Redshirt sophomore forward
Billy Metzler tallied a goal and an assist to power James Madison men's soccer to a 2-0 win over Drexel at Vidas Field on Saturday.
Junior forward
Joe Vyner started the scoring for the Dukes, heading Metzler's cross from the left flank to the near post in the 66th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Vyner after he earned his first point of the season this past Wednesday, assisting on the game-winning goal.
Metzler sealed the win for the JMU in the 74th minute, controlling a loose ball and turning to finish into an empty net. The forward from Fairfax, Va. leads the Dukes in points (8), assists (3) and is tied for the team lead in goals (2).
JMU improved to 3-9-3 on the season and 2-3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, good for eight points in the standings. Drexel fell to 1-11-2 and 0-6-0 in the conference, eliminating the Dragons from postseason play. JMU moved into position to make the CAA tournament with the win, but multiple matches are still to be played.
