JMU is seeking its first win of the season after falling to Old Dominion 62-55 in a physical season opener on Friday night.
Eleven different players saw the floor for the Dukes against ODU, with nine different players scoring baskets. Senior guard/forward Shakir Brown racked up 16 points.
Brown was named Second Team Preseason All-CAA, while senior forward Yohanny Dalembert was an honorable mention.
The Dukes enter 2016-17 with an experienced lineup, returning seven seniors and four starters.
JMU finished 2015-16 in a tie for third place in the CAA standings after a 21-11 season with an 11-7 mark in conference play
The Owls finished 2015-16 with a 12-20 record, but returns seven letterwinners, including four starters.
Rice's Marcus Evans lead all freshmen in the country with 21.4 points per game last season.
Rice was picked to finish ninth in Conference-USA by a poll of the league's coaches.
This is the first-ever meeting between JMU and Rice.
