CANCUN, Mexico – James Madison women's basketball capped the Cancun Challenge falling 90-75 to Iowa in the Riviera Division Friday night.
JMU (3-3) led 19-8 early in the contest, but a strong shooting stretch by Iowa (5-2) tied the game at 19-all less than three minutes into the second quarter. Despite the Hawkeyes shooting 68.9 percent from the floor over the middle two frames, there were 10 tied scores and five lead changes before Iowa took the lead for good late in the third quarter (54-52, 2:35 3Q).
Iowa finished shooting 53.3 percent from the floor while JMU sank 37.5 percent of attempts. Three Dukes reached double figures, led by redshirt senior guard Precious Hall's 22 points. Senior forward Da'Lishia Griffin scored in double digits for the second straight game with 14 points, and freshman guard Kamiah Smalls reached double digits at 10.
Griffin and redshirt junior forward Amber Porter tied for the game high in rebounds at nine to lead JMU to a 45-31 advantage on the glass. The Dukes pulled down 25 offensive boards to the Hawkeyes' 20 defensive boards, but were only able to convert them into a 20-14 edge in second-chance points.
The Dukes make a brief stop at home a week from today as they host Hampton on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the JMU Convocation Center.

CLIMBING THE RECORD CHARTS Precious Hall needs two points to tie and three points to take sole possession of fifth place on the career scoring chart outright. She has 1,645 career points, just behind former teammate Kirby Burkholder (JMU '14), who closed her career with 1,647 points.

JMU returns home for the first time since the opening weekend of the season on Dec. 2 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Hampton at the Convo.
