#7 JMU Wins Offensive Thriller, 47-43, at #6 Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior tight end Jonathan Kloosterman caught an acrobatic nine-yard touchdown pass with 1:36 to play and James Madison added another score with a minute remaining to push the seventh-ranked Dukes to a thrilling 47-43 win over No. 6 Richmond on Saturday evening at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium.

The Dukes improved to 8-1 on the season and remained unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 6-0 mark. The Spiders fell to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the CAA. It snapped UR's 11-game, home win streak, with the previous defeat at Robins Stadium coming back on Nov. 15, 2014 -- against JMU.
Kloosterman reeled in two touchdown passes for the first time in his career, while senior running back Khalid Abdullah ran for two scores to break JMU's all-time record for career rushing touchdowns, with 33.

Junior quarterback Bryan Schor was 22-of-28 for 285 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 91 yards and a score for a career-best 376 yards of total offense. Four wide receivers had at least five receptions, led by junior Terrence Alls, who caught a career-high six catches for 98 yards. Kloosterman accrued five catches for 53 yards and two scores -- all career highs. Senior Rashard Davis notched five receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown, and senior Brandon Ravenel tallied five grabs for 89 yards.
Richmond quarterback Kyle Lauletta rushed for a one-yard touchdown to put the Spiders up 37-33 with 6:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Dukes drove 71 yards in 12 plays over 5:07 to set up the Kloosterman score that put the Dukes ahead 40-37. Abdullah added an insurance touchdown after UR turned the ball over on downs, then the Spiders threw a touchdown as time expired to bring the score to 47-43.

After an Andrew Ankrah sack forced the first punt of the game in the third quarter, Abdullah ran eight yards for a touchdown that put JMU up 30-24. Sophomore kicker Tyler Gray hit his second field goal of the day to put the Dukes on top 33-31 after Richmond's Jay Palmer had found the end zone on the previous drive.
For the second straight season the teams combined for over 1,000 yards, as the Spiders gained 551 on 435 passing and 116 rushing, and the Dukes had 534 yards on 285 passing and 249 rushing. JMU was 8-for-12 on third down, while Richmond was 7-for-12. The Dukes scored touchdowns on six of nine red-zone opportunities, and the defense sacked Lauletta three times for a loss of 27.

Defensively, redshirt junior safety Jordan Brown and redshirt senior linebacker Gage Steele each led the team with 11 tackles while junior defensive lineman and Richmond-native Cornell Urquhart had eight stops. Ankrah was one of four Dukes to have five tackles and finished with a season-best 2.0 sacks.

The Dukes return to action on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they travel to No. 10 Villanova. Kickoff is set for a 1 p.m. start in what will be the final regular-season home game for VU long-time Head Coach Andy Talley.

This is our biggest rival and having to play them on the road, I couldn't be more proud the way our players represented themselves. We had a lot of adversity at times, but they prevailed and we're certainly very excited to get the win."

For the first time this season, JMU did not attempt a punt. The last time the Dukes went an entire game without punting was Nov. 21, 2009 against Hofstra. JMU did go for it once on fourth down, and Khalid Abdullah rushed for the first down to set up the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth.

The Dukes have gotten five touchdowns from their tight ends in the past two weeks. In addition to Kloosterman's two scores against the Spiders, senior tight end Daniel Schiele reeled in a career-high three touchdowns in the 84-7 win over Rhode Island.

Khalid Abdullah and Bryan Schor both moved up the JMU all-time season records charts with their performances on Saturday. Abdullah rushed for 123 yards, putting him at a career-high 1,074 yards for the season. He passed Curtis Keaton (1998) for 10th in single-season rushing yards and is now tied with Kenny Sims (1992) for third in single season rushing touchdowns with 14. Schor moved into 10th in single-season passing yards (1,918), pass completions (146) and total offense (2,443). He also now sits in seventh in single-season passing touchdowns (18).
