CHICAGO – James Madison junior quarterback Bryan Schor was recognized for his consistent production, as he was added to the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Watch List on Wednesday.
A four-time Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, Schor leads the country in completion percentage (72.3%), and he is third in pass efficiency (178.5), fourth in yards per pass attempt (9.50) and fifth in point responsibility (162).
The Milford, Pa. native has amassed nearly 2,500 yards of total offense in nine games, averaging 271.4 per outing. He has passed for 1,918 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for 525 yards and nine scores. Schor has produced six games with 200 or more passing yards and run for more than 100 yards twice.
Over the past three weeks, Schor has averaged 286.0 passing yards and 70.0 rushing yards per game, accumulating 14 total touchdowns. He has tallied six games with three or more total touchdowns this season, including five on two occasions. In JMU's 84-7 win against Rhode Island, Schor set a JMU completion percentage record, going 21-for-22 (95.5%) for 309 yards and five touchdowns – both career highs.
In just 13 starts, Schor already ranks tied for eighth all-time at JMU in career passing touchdowns (25). His 18 touchdown passes in 2016 ranks seventh on the program's single-season list, and he is also 10th in passing yards (1,918), completions (146) and total offense (2,443).
Schor is the second JMU player to join the Walter Payton Award Watch List, as senior running back Khalid Abdullah was added back on Oct. 4. JMU is one of four FCS schools to have multiple players on the Watch List, as South Dakota State has three nominees, and Eastern Washington and Northern Arizona each have two.
A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award following the regular season. Also this season, STATS will present the Buck Buchanan Award (FCS defensive player of the year), the Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year), the Eddie Robinson Award (FCS coach of the year) and the Doris Robinson FCS Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Dukes, who rank sixth in the latest STATS FCS Top 25, were selected as the No. 5 team by the NCAA FCS Playoffs Selection Committee last week. The second of three lists will be announced on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
JMU hits the road for the final time during the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 12 when it faces No. 9 Villanova. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The 2016 JMU football season is presented by CarMax.
