SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- College of Charleston has won five of its last six to snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 15-8 (7-5 CAA) on the season, putting the Cougars in sole possession of sixth place in the CAA, just one game back of the Dukes.
- The Cougars have won four straight games at TD Arena and are currently 10-3 on their home floor. Their last loss in Charleston dates back to a 65-64 loss to Elon on Jan. 16.
- After junior guard Canyon Barry, Charleston's leading scorer at 19.7 points per game, went down with a season-ending injury, the Cougars have turned to a trio of double-digit scorers, with sophomore guard Cameron Johnson (12.0 ppg), freshman guard Marquise Pointer (11.3) and freshman forward Jarrell Brantley leading the way. Brantley also leads the way for Charleston on the boards, pulling down 6.4 rebounds per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday's contest will mark just the seventh in the two teams' all-time series, which is currently deadlocked at 3-3.
- Every game between the two schools except the first one, a Dec. 30, 2007 bout in Charleston, has come in the three seasons since the Cougars joined the CAA prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
- Charleston handed the Dukes a 65-62 loss in Harrisonburg earlier this year in both teams' CAA opener, snapping JMU's three-game win streak over the Cougars. In that contest, senior guard Ron Curry went 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from the three-point line to lead the Dukes with 23 points, while junior forward Dimitrije Cabarkapa added 16 points.
LAST TIME OUT
- Senior guard Ron Curry hit a game-tying three-pointer with 12.3 seconds left in regulation and James Madison went on to capture a 98-95 overtime win over Hofstra on Feb. 7 at the JMU Convocation Center.
- The Dukes, who came back from a deficit of 14 points to complete their biggest comeback of the season, improved to 18-7 (8-4 CAA) with the victory, after shooting 54.8% (17-for-31) from the field and 53.8% (7-for-13) in the second half. Hofstra dropped to 16-8 (8-4 CAA) in the loss, its second overtime defeat at the hands of the Dukes this season.
- Curry's big shot was the high mark of a career day for the senior, as he racked up 31 points, breaking his career high, on 9-of-16 shooting and 7-of-12 from the three-point line. The effort was Curry's 17th straight double-digits scoring night and the 74th of his career, but marked the first time the Pennsauken, N.J. native had cleared the 30-point barrier.
DUKES ON TV
- Thursday evening's contest will mark JMU's fifth appearance on regional television this season, as the Dukes are slated to appear live on MyTV, a local affiliate in the Charleston area. The game will also be broadcast live on CAA.TV. All times are Eastern and stations are subject to change, so check your local listings.
