SCOUTING THE PRIDE
- After following its loss to the Dukes with four straight wins, Hofstra lost a 70-67 home decision to UNCW this past Thursday evening on a deep three-pointer from the Seahawks in the final seconds that dropped the Pride to 16-7 (8-3 CAA) on the year.
- Hofstra has lost just one conference game on the road this season, a 71-62 defeat at College of Charleston in its second league contest of the season. For the year, the Pride is 6-3 on opponents' home court.
- Senior guard Juan'ya Green, the Preseason CAA Player of the Year, is living up to the billing as he brings averages of 17.8 points per game and 6.7 assists per game into Sunday afternoon's contest. Meanwhile, sophomore center Rokas Gustys continues to average a double-double in a breakout season, tallying 12.8 points per game and pulling down 11.5 boards per contest. Three other Hofstra players join the pair in double-digits, led by senior guard Ameen Tanksley at 15.4 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- JMU and Hofstra have faced each other 25 times in men's basketball, with all 25 contests coming after the Pride joined the Colonial Athletic Association prior to the 2001-02 campaign.
- The Dukes have won six of the last nine against Hofstra, including three of the last four at the Convocation Center in Harrisonburg and an 86-82 overtime victory in Hempstead earlier this season on Jan. 16.
- In that contest, the Dukes climbed out of a six-point hole in the final five minutes of regulation, holding the high-powered Pride offense to just 36% (27-75) shooting from the field and 22.9% (8-35) from long range. Junior guard Shakir Brown (22p/11r) and junior forward Yohanny Dalembert (16p/16r) both notched double-doubles in the victory.
LAST TIME OUT
- Junior forward Yohanny Dalembert notched his third double-double of the season (15p/12r) and the Dukes had another standout defensive effort as JMU bounced back with a 78-56 win over Drexel on Feb. 4 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
- The Dukes held Drexel to 17-of-60 (28.3%) shooting from the field, including an 8-for-28 (28.6%) mark from long-range, as they improved to 17-7 (7-4 CAA) on the evening. The Dragons dropped to 3-19 (1-10 CAA) with the loss.
- Senior guard Ron Curry posted his 16th consecutive double-digit evening with a 16-point effort that included a trio of rebounds, while junior guard Shakir Brown added 13 points and eight rebounds of his own, just missing his sixth double-double of the year.
