No. 9 JMU Downs No. 18 Arizona 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – No.9 James Madison softball defeated No.18 Arizona in a 6-1 decision Wednesday night at Hillenbrand Stadium in Arizona. The Dukes advanced to 18-1 on the season with their 16th straight win while the Wildcats fell to 15-8.
Sophomore Morgan Tolle tallied a team-high two RBIs on a two-run homer while junior Taylor Newton and sophomore Alyssa Buddle each picked up one RBI. Alongside Tolle and Buddle, junior Niki Prince recorded two hits on the day.
Sophomore pitcher Megan Good (11-1) got the win in a complete game performance with seven strikeouts while only allowing one run on five hits.
JMU pounced on Arizona in the first inning, tallying four runs in the first frame as the Dukes scored on three straight at-bats courtesy of singles from Newton, Prince and Buddle. The Dukes notched the final run of the first when Prince stole home in a double steal situation.
Tolle tacked on two more JMU runs in the fifth with her home run that scored herself and Field, who reached on a walk.
Arizona responded with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the sixth, but Good got out of the inning with three straight groundouts.
Today's victory marked the team's fifth win of the season over a nationally ranked opponent.

DOMINATING DUO
With a 2-0 record against Arizona, Ford and Good have held the Wildcats to a .189 batting average. JMU has outscored Arizona 10-3 over the two-game span with a team batting average of .290.
TEAM EFFORT
Seven different Dukes recorded hits and five different players crossed the plate in the 6-1 victory.
