ORLANDO, Fla. – James Madison women's tennis opened its spring break stretch in Orlando with a 4-0 win over Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon, stretching the team's win streak to three.

The Dukes (7-3, 1-0 CAA) battled for the doubles point, opening with a 6-3 win from freshmen Emma Petersen and Bella Heidenreich at No. 3 doubles in their first match as a duo over Tai Martin and Megan Smith. The freshman-junior tandem of Abby Amos and Rebecca Harris clinched the first point with a 7-5 victory over Sierra Stone and Fleur Holtkamp at No. 1 doubles as they remained undefeated (6-0) as a team.

Sophomore Kimmy Herrock gave JMU a 2-0 lead when she defeated Tyler Baker 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, pushing her spring record to 8-1. Junior Rachel Nelson followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Macy Vonderschmidt, improving her spring mark to 6-4.

Petersen secured match point for the Dukes with a two-set win (6-3, 7-6(4)) over Holtkamp at No. 4 singles, leaving the remaining contests unfinished. The freshman is now 7-2 in spring singles matches.

JMU faces South Dakota State on Thursday, March 10 in the second of three matches in Orlando, Fla. The Dukes take on the Jackrabbits at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Cane Tennis Center.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JAMES BRYCE
"Today was a great win for this team. Our intensity was fantastic, and we carried the doubles point momentum into singles. With this being our first outdoor match and dealing with windy conditions, the team did a very good job controlling their controllables, which we talk about every day. We played with confidence and had to fight hard in every match. Charlotte is a strong team, and I am happy with the team's effort today."
