NEWARK, Del. - Delaware racked up 15 hits on Saturday afternoon to hand James Madison a 16-6 loss in the second game of this weekend's three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball series at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Â
The Dukes fell to 12-15 (3-2 CAA) in the loss despite five extra base hits, while UD improved to 17-10 (1-4 CAA), taking advantage of three JMU errors.
Â
Junior left fielder Ky Parrott continued his run of good play with a 2-for-3 afternoon that included a pair of walks and a triple, while junior first baseman Brett Johnson launched his fifth homer of the season in the fourth inning.
Â
Delaware put JMU in a deep hole early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first on three hits, five walks and an error. After Johnson's long ball in the fourth cut it to 5-1, the Blue Hens tacked on four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and seven in the seventh to put things out of reach at 16-1.
Â
The Dukes plated five runs in the eighth to do their only significant damage of the afternoon, highlighted by and RBI triple from senior third baseman Kyle Weston, an RBI single from sophomore Logan Quimuyog and a two-RBI double from senior Chris Hanson, marking his first hit and RBIs of the season.
Â
Sophomore left-hander Colton Harlow took the loss, his first in three weeks, to fall to 2-3 on the season.
Â
Shortstop Jeremy Ake and second baseman Nick Tierno each had three hits to lead the way for Delaware, while lefty Brandon Walter improved to 3-3 with six innings of work that saw him yield just three hits and a run, despite walking four.
Â
QUOTING COACH IKENBERRY
"When you have to go to the bullpen in the first inning, you're usually in for a rough day. I thought he had a chance to make it closer in the fourth, but give Delaware credit for extending the lead when they needed to. I was proud of the guys coming off the bench to produce some really quality at-bats."
