SOUTHPORT, N.C. - Junior
Ryan Cole carded a 5-under 67 to lead the James Madison men's golf team in the second round of the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association Championships at the Par-72, 6,784-yard St. James Plantation.
Cole (-1, T-3rd) sunk four birdies while limiting himself to only one bogey, but the highlight of the day came on the par-5 10th hole where he posted an eagle.
Freshman
Alex Henderson (+2, T-7th) fired off five more birdies to carry over his success from Friday's first round to shoot a 2-over 74 and maintain his position in the top-10 of the 45-golfer individual leaderboard.
As a team, the Dukes dropped one spot and currently sit tied for third with Drexel at 20-over par. The College of Charleston, who was the only team to stay under par at 6-under on Saturday, has created a 16-stroke lead over the second-place UNCW Seahawks. Charleston's William Rainey sits atop the individual leaderboard for the second straight day after carding a 3-under par 69.
Sophomore
Matt Cowgill (+7, 17th) slashed three strokes off of his first-round score with a 2-over par 74 on Saturday on the strength of three birdies and an 11th-hole eagle. Sophomore
Jack Floydd (+16, T-37th) and junior
Poom Pattaropong (+16, T-37th) round out the scoring for JMU.
The Dukes return to the course tomorrow morning when the third and final of the CAA Championships begins a 8 a.m.
