HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis swept Davidson 4-0 in Sunday afternoon action at Hillside Courts.
JMU (14-5) snapped Davidson's 11-match win streak (14-3) with the victory. The Dukes opened with a pair of 6-4 doubles victories to take the 1-0 lead before picking up three two-set singles wins for the 4-0 match win over the Wildcats.
Freshmen Bella Heidenreich and Emma Peterseneach went 2-0 on the day, starting with a 6-4 doubles victory at the No. 3 position over Ava Todd and Sarah Stein that clinched the opening point for JMU. Heidenreich carried the momentum into No. 6 singles for straight 6-2 set wins over Stein to put the Dukes up 2-0, and Petersen quickly followed at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Megan Scholvinck.
Junior Timea Guibe clinched match point at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Todd.
The freshman-junior duo of Abby Amos and Rebecca Harris got the winning action started, posting a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Ally Sexton and Anna Feaster to open the day.
The Dukes get a brief break from competition this week before heading to Richmond on Monday, April 11 for their final road match of the regular season.
