HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore designated hitter Jessica Mrozek and junior infielder Niki Prince led James Madison to a 14-2 victory over No. 2 Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Dukes advanced to the CAA title game on Friday at noon, while the Tigers will face the winner of No. 3 Delaware and No. 5 College of Charleston later on Thursday evening.
JMU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run single from junior outfielder Taylor Newton and a two-run homer from Mrozek, her first of the season.
The Tigers closed the gap with a two-run homer from Brook Miko in the third, but were unable to push any more runs across before the mercy rule took effect in the fifth inning.
James Madison responded after Miko's long ball, tacking on nine more runs in the bottom of the third. Mrozek singled and Prince homered, extending the lead to 9-2, before the Dukes drew three straight walks on 12 consecutive balls from Towson's Dejter. With the bases loaded, Towson committed an infield error, plating two more runs, and JMU tacked on two more shortly thereafter, closing the inning with a 13-2 advantage.
After a 76-minute weather delay, Megan Good tossed two more scoreless innings to complete her five innings, striking out three while yielding just two runs on three hits.
The Dukes moved to 45-4 on the season while the Tigers fell to 36-17. In the circle, Good improved to 29-2 and is now tied for first on the single-season wins chart alongside her rookie 29-3 record.
