BALTIMORE, Md. - UMBC hit three home runs and allowed just one James Madison hit on Tuesday evening as the Retrievers handed JMU a 14-0 loss in the Dukes' final non-conference game of the season at Alumni Field.

The Dukes fell to 20-29 in the loss, which saw them put just four runners in scoring position, while UMBC, which won its seventh consecutive game, improved to 26-20.

UMBC plated four runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to put the Dukes in a hole. JMU loaded the bases in the fifth and pushed another runner to third in the eighth, but could not strike back against the Retrievers.

Kyle Weston notched the Dukes' only hit of the evening, a one-out single in the fifth inning. JMU used seven pitchers in the pre-determined staff day, with freshman starter
Daniel Pinson taking the loss for the Dukes.

UMBC catcher Hunter Dolshun accounted for two of the Retrievers' homers, hitting a three-run shot in the third and following with a two-run blast in the fifth after walking in his first plate appearance. Third baseman Jamie Switalski and second baseman AJ Wright each added three hits on the evening.

Retriever starter Matt Chanin picked up his first win of the year, yielding just the one hit and striking out four across five innings before giving way to a trio of arms, who closed out the final four frames.

UP NEXT
The Dukes will close out their regular season this weekend, as they head to Hempstead, N.Y. to face Hofstra in a three game series from Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21. The Pride, who are 15-33 (5-15 CAA) and eliminated from contention for the CAA Tournament, have lost nine of their last 11 and face Monmouth on Tuesday evening.

JMU will be playing for a berth in the CAA Tournament, held in Charleston, S.C. from May 25-28. The top six teams in the league qualify for the tournament, with the Dukes currently sitting in a tie for fifth. Fourth-place Northeastern leads JMU and Charleston by half a game, while Delaware and Towson are tied for seventh, one game behind the Dukes.
