HARRISONBURG, Va. – After dropping the first set to Georgia State, James Madison volleyball rallied for a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-15) on Friday night to complete a 2-0 day at the JMU Invitational at Sinclair Gym.

The Dukes manage to fight out of a one-set deficit with a narrow 25-23 victory in set two to lock the match at 1-all at the break. JMU used that momentum heading into the fourth set, as the Dukes hit .379 as a team and reeled off nine of the match's final 11 points to win set four, 25-15.
Earlier on Friday, the Dukes topped North Carolina Central (0-2) in straight sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-21), led by Goodman's 17 kills. Newcomers Tilbe Yaglioglu and Martin carried the load as setter, a hole left by Sara Patterson's graduation. Yagliogliu, a sophomore transfer, dished out a team-leading 17 assists to guide the Dukes to a .333 team attack percentage.
The Dukes held the Lady Eagles' offense in check during the opening sets with two 25-12 victories to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the break. NCC tested JMU in the decisive third set, using a late 5-0 run to close the Dukes' lead to 22-18, but Goodman closed the door with her sixth kill of the set to secure the 25-21 victory.
Quoting Coach Steinbrecher
"I'm really proud of my team tonight. Georgia State is a really strong team and will do really well in their conference this season. I told the team at halftime and at the end of the game that I loved that they challenged and pushed us to see if we'd respond. We're still working through lineups and what are best six looks like, but I'm really pleased with our entire team, who battled when we needed it."
