BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomores
Stephanie Hendrie and
Steffi Page both scored first-half goals on Sunday afternoon, but Indiana was still able to hand James Madison a 4-2 loss in a high-powered, non-conference women's soccer contest at Thompson Field.
Â
The Dukes score multiple goals for the second match in a row, despite falling to 2-6 in the loss. Indiana is now 3-4-1 after the win.
Â
After the Hoosiers took a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute, the teams combined for a flurry of four goals in four minutes. JMU opened the charge in the 24th minute after a nice series of passes, when senior forward
Ashley Herndon found Hendrie on the right side and the sophomore slotted home her first career goal to tie things at 1-1.
Â
Just 48 seconds later, the Dukes jumped ahead when freshman forward
Haley Crawford played Page in on a through ball and the Herndon, Va. native finished from eight yards out to put JMU ahead. The goal was Page's third of the season, tied for the team lead with Herndon.
Â
After the back-to-back tallies, however, Indiana scored goals in each of the next two minutes to go back on top, 3-2, before adding a fourth in the 66th minute to put the match out of reach.
Â
The second half was much tighter than the first, as the teams combined for just six shots--three each--after racking up 17 in the opening stanza. The Dukes forced five saves out of Indiana goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu on the match, while junior
Maggie Buxton and freshman
Hannah McShea combined for a pair of saves for JMU.

QUOTING COACH LOMBARDO
"I was disappointed with our defensive effort today. After a strong match against Boston on Friday, we didn't back it up today. We made way too many mistakes in the defensive third and, to Indiana's credit, the punished those mistakes. We're putting too much pressure on our offense to score goals in bunches. When we score two goals, it should be enough to win most games, so we need to tighten up defensively. That will be our priority this week as we get back to work."

CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
With her assist on Sunday, senior forward
Ashley Herndon continued her march up the JMU career record books.

APPROACHING A MILESTONE
With his victory over Boston University on Friday night,
Dave Lombardo picked up the 399th victory of his storied head coaching career. With the Dukes next win, Lombardo will become the 14th women's soccer coach in NCAA history to reach the 400-win milestone and just the seventh Division I coach to accomplish the feat.
