HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – James Madison men's soccer opened Colonial Athletic Association play with a 2-0 loss at Hofstra on Saturday night.
The Dukes fell to 0-6-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference games. The Pride improved to 3-3-1 overall, and hold a 1-0-0 conference mark.
Despite Hofstra leading in shots 10-1 at halftime, the Dukes kept the Pride off the scoresheet through two saves from redshirt senior goalkeeper Kyle Morton and compact play from the back line.
JMU turned the table in the second half, outshooting Hofstra 11-5 in the period. For the second game in a row, freshman midfielder Niclas Mohr led the team in shots, taking four attempts at goal.
Meshack Eshun Addy put Hofstra ahead in the 54th minute with a high finish, then Danny Elliott doubled the lead in the final minute of the game on a breakaway.
QUOTING COACH FOLEY
"We were pushing all over them in the second half, so I don't mind the second goal because it came against the run of play. We essentially played a one-goal game with the defending conference champions. Ben Dao and Kyle Morton both had good performances, and I'm proud of the effort from all of our guys today."
DUKE DEBUTS
In his 24th career appearance, junior forward Drew Mahoney made his first career start on Saturday night.

JMU returns to Sentara Park on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for a non-conference tilt against No. 24 Radford. The Highlanders played in Harrisonburg earlier in the year, beating both Lehigh and N.C. State by 1-0 margins.
