WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – James Madison men's soccer earned its second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association point, playing William & Mary to a 0-0, weather-shortened draw at Martin Family Stadium. The match was stopped in the 80th minute due to lightning.
The Dukes moved to 0-7-3 on the year, including a 0-1-2 mark in CAA play. The Tribe are now 5-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the conference.
The Tribe held a 15-10 advantage in shots, but led just 5-4 in shots on goal. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Kyle Morton made five saves, including a sprawling effort to stop a diving header by William & Mary's Antonio Bustamante.
JMU's best opportunity to score came in the 60th minute when freshman midfielder Ben Dao nearly tapped in a cross from redshirt sophomore forward Billy Metzler, but his effort went just wide of the right post.
Sophomore forward Aaron Ward-Baptiste had two shots on goal, a free kick saved at the upper 90 in the 25th minute and a header saved at the post in the 44th minute.
The Dukes won five corner kicks, as opposed to the Tribe's three. William & Mary committed 10 fouls, while JMU committed just five.
CAA STANDINGS
QUOTING COACH FOLEY
"True to form in the CAA, I think it was a challenging game. It was a hard-fought match with both teams creating opportunities to score. Unfortunately the game was stopped by lightning, but it was a valuable point as we advance through the conference portion of our schedule."
