WOLCOTT, Colo. - James Madison women's golf shot its second straight round of 20-over 308 on Wednesday afternoon to close out the Golfweek Conference Challenge in 17th place at the par-72, 6,261-yard Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club.
 
The Dukes, who shot 308 on both Tuesday and Wednesday, posted a final score of 938 to finish just six strokes behind 16th-place Missouri State and three ahead of South Florida.
 
Juniors 
Laura Gomez-Ruiz and 
Maddisen Cox both scored rounds of 1-over 73 on Wednesday. Gomez-Ruiz jumped six spots into a tie for 52nd ( 12, 228) place, and Cox improved a full 10 spots to close the week in a tie for 63rd ( 15, 231). Gomez-Ruiz' round also matched her lowest of the season thus far.
 
Sophomore 
Jordan McKelvin notched a round of 8-over 80, finishing in 87th ( 29, 245), while freshmen 
Morgan Cox and 
Lauren Comegys each posted rounds of 10-over 82, closing the week in 80th ( 22, 238) and 86th ( 28, 244), respectively.

"We left some strokes out there today, like we did in the first two rounds, but overall, I'm proud of the way the girls battled this week. We'll come home and work hard so we're ready to go at Pinehurst."
 
TWO DAYS OF EAGLES
After no JMU player notched an eagle in the Dukes' first tournament of the season, junior 
Laura Gomez-Ruiz posted her second in as many rounds on Wednesday afternoon, eagling the par-5, 491-yard second hole. Gomez-Ruiz eagled the par-4, 380-yard 13th during yesterday's second round.

The Dukes will head to historic Pinehurst, N.C. in two weeks to take part in the Pinehurst Challenge from Monday, Oct. 10-Tuesday, Oct. 11. The event, hosted by the College of Charleston, will be held on Pinehurst's No. 1 course and live scoring will be provided at GolfStat.com.
