Dukes Fall to Drexel in Rain-Soaked Heartbreaker

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Drexel forward Shaelyn McCarty's goal with just 2:14 left on the clock handed the James Madison women's soccer team a heartbreaking 1-0 loss on in Colonial Athletic Association action on Friday night at Sentara Park.

The Dukes, who fell to 4-8-0 (1-2-0 CAA) in the rain-soaked loss, controlled possession for much of the contest, outshooting Drexel (6-5-1, 2-1-0 CAA) by a 15-7 margin.

Senior forward Ashley Herndon racked up a game-high five shots, including a pair on goal, while freshman Claire Meiser tallied four shots of her own, setting a new career high.

The Dragons tallied the match's only goal deep into the match, catching JMU on a quick counter attack. Forward Vanessa Kara played a ball over the Dukes' backline that McCarty was able to run onto down the left wing before finishing one-on-one from 15 yards to provide the final margin.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah McShea tallied three saves for the Dukes, while Drexel goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami was forced to make seven saves of her own to preserve the shutout.
