Dukes Battle to 76-70 Win at Elon Behind Hall's 41 Points

ELON, N.C. – Redshirt senior guard Precious Hall poured in 41 points to power James Madison women's basketball (12-5, 5-1 CAA) to a 76-70 victory at Elon (13-5, 5-1 CAA) on Friday night.

Hall was 13-for-28 from the field, including 5-for-8 from the floor in the third quarter. Her 16 points over the third frame pushed JMU out in front for good in the ninth lead change after eight tied scores.

The Dukes' victory snapped Elon's nine-game win-streak and handed the Phoenix their first loss in league play. The two teams are now tied for first place in the league standings.

Redshirt junior forward Amber Porter joined Hall in double figures at 13 points and just missed a double-double at nine rebounds. JMU finished the contest shooting 45.1 percent (23-51) and held Elon to 33.3 percent (25-75).

The Phoenix won the battle of the boards 48-41, including 23 offensive boards converted into a 21-10 second-chance point advantage.

THREE-POINT LAND
In the first half, JMU and Elon were tied with three 3-pointers each; however, JMU was 3-for-6 from deep while Elon was 3-for-16. The Dukes finished with nine 3-pointers for the night and kept the Phoenix from scoring beyond the arc in the second half.

STREAKS-A-PLENTY
After Elon took a six-point lead (11-6) just 3:37 into the contest, the Dukes held the Phoenix without a field goal for the next 8:28 on the clock, keeping Elon from scoring a field goal on 14 straight attempts. Neither team would get more than four points ahead until a 15-6 stretch in the third quarter put JMU up seven. The Dukes led by as many nine with 8:53 left on the clock and never let the Phoenix get closer than three.

HALL MARKS

Her 41 points, pushing her career total to 1,920 points, are a regulation-time career high.
Hall has scored in double figures 17 straight games, now tied again for the 15^th-longest stretch in JMU history. It is the third time in her career she has had 17 or more straight double-digit scoring performances.
With her 112^th career start, she is now tied for ninth all-time with Nadine Morgan ('03) and Paula Schuler ('91).
