HARRISONBURG, Va. - Guard
Deshon Parker has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the James Madison men's basketball team for the 2018-19 season, Head Coach
Louis Rowe announced on Tuesday morning.
Â
Parker, a 6-1 guard from Huber Heights, Ohio, comes to Harrisonburg after starring for both Wayne High School for Coach Travis Trice and All Ohio Red on the Nike EYBL circuit under Coach Matt Sylvester. In addition to being an honor roll student at Wayne, Parker was named First Team All-GWOC as a junior in the prestigious Greater Western Ohio Conference.
Â
"We're very excited for Deshon to be joining the JMU basketball family," Rowe said. "He is a true point guard with good size. He already has a great feel for the game; he can score, but he very much runs the show and makes every player around him better. He's a great young man and someone that fits our team's style and character on and off the court."
Â
Parker, the second-youngest of six siblings, was also named to the Associated Press Division I All-Southwest District team following his junior season and is considered one of the top point guard prospects in the state of Ohio.
Â
The Dukes will hit the road for the first time this week, traveling to Nassau, Bahamas to take part in The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase, beginning on Friday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. against Northern Kentucky. JMU will also play contests on Saturday and Sunday, with times and opponents determined by Friday's results across the eight-team bracket.
