RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond hit a three-pointer with 0.4 seconds to play on Sunday afternoon, saddling James Madison with a heartbreaking 74-71 loss in non-conference men's basketball action at the Robins Center.
The Dukes (3-8) shot 63 percent (17-of-27) in the second half, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc, as the two teams traded the lead eight times after halftime. Turnovers made the difference, as JMU committed 15 turnovers to Richmond's (2-8) four.
JMU trailed, 71-69, with 21 seconds remaining before redshirt junior
Stuckey Mosley drew a foul and knocked down both free throws to tie the game with seven seconds remaining before freshman Jacob Gilyard dribbled up and drilled a deep three for the gamewinner.
Mosley led all scorers on the night with 25 points, all of which came in the second half, along with four rebounds. Junior
DeVelle Phillips notched his fourth double-double of the year and second in as many games, racking up 11 points with 17 rebounds, three blocks and an assist, while freshman
Darius Banks picked up 13 points on just 10 shots.
Neither team led by more than six at any point in the contest, with the Dukes taking a 51-45 lead with 11:40 to play. The Spiders responded with back-to-back threes to erase the lead and the game was within three points the rest of the way.
QUOTING COACH ROWE
