STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – James Madison men's tennis secured a 6-1 victory over Bucknell on a neutral court Saturday evening.
The Dukes jumped out to a 1-0 lead with wins in two of three doubles matches against the Bison (1-6). Bucknell tied it at 1-all with a win at No. 1 singles, but JMU won the five remaining singles matches to earn the team victory.
Steinour and Salinas battled to a 7-6(2) win over Ben Gerber and Daniel Wright at No. 2 doubles, clinching the opening point. Salinas put the Dukes ahead for good with a two-set victory (6-1, 6-2) over Andrei Vitiuc at No. 2 singles. Steinour stayed undefeated in singles this spring (4-0) with a hard-fought two-set triumph (7-6(5), 7-5) over Bryan Adams at No. 6 singles.

"This was a good, hard-fought win by the guys. It was nice to get the doubles point and carry that through to singles as well. Almost every court had the kind of focus and energy we will need throughout the season to continue to pull out these matches. We have a short turnaround but are excited to get back on the courts tomorrow against a solid Penn State team."
