JMU Blanks Hofstra 7-0 in Home Opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis earned its 10^th victory of the spring with a 7-0 win over Hofstra in the Dukes' home opener.

The Dukes opened with a sweep of doubles, including shut outs at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. They won in straight sets at Nos. 1-3 singles to clinch the team win before Nos. 4-6 completed the match sweep.

All six Dukes went 2-0 on the afternoon, playing in both doubles and singles. Sophomore Emma Petersen conceded just one game to an opponent all day, blanking Jasmine King and Tara Reutter 6-0 alongside senior Rebecca Harris at No. 2 doubles and sinking King 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Senior Timea Guibe kept D'Asha Davis off the board in singles, pulling off straight 6-0 set victories at No. 1 singles. She also teamed with junior Kimmy Herrock for a 6-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles over Sarah Herndon and Disha Yellayi.

Herrock had the only three-set match of the day, going the distance for a come-from-behind tiebreak victory (4-6, 6-2, 10-6) against Carmen Pestano at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Jona Roka stayed unbeaten in both Colonial Athletic Association action (3-0) and No. 3 singles action (3-0) with straight 6-2 set victories over Herndon. The singles victory marked her 11^th this spring, the team's best mark, and her 17^th overall singles win this year, tying her with Guibe (17-7) and junior Dylan Owens (17-4) for team's overall best.
