Sciorra Homer Gives Dukes Walk-Off Win Over Cougars

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior center fielder Mike Sciorra blasted a home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the 12th inning to give James Madison a 6-5 win over College of Charleston in a Colonial Athletic Association baseball contest at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park on Friday night.

The Dukes snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 17-11 overall and 3-4 in CAA play, while the Cougars fell to 14-16 and 5-2 in the league.

JMU tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth inning when redshirt junior second baseman Josh Wyatt dropped a single into center field to score junior second baseman Kyle McPherson from second base. The game remained deadlocked for three innings thanks to the stellar relief pitching of senior left-hander Michael Evans, who struck out seven batters without allowing a run in three innings.

Senior left fielder Ky Parrott had initially given the Dukes a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot off the scoreboard in right field. The Cougars tied the game at 4-4 when Tommy Richter scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, and took a 5-4 lead on Dupree Hart's RBI fielder's choice in the seventh.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Kevin Kelly earned the win on the mound for JMU after a scoreless 12th inning to improve to 4-1. Tucker White took the loss for College of Charleston and dropped to 1-4.
