LYNCHBURG, Va. – Behind a record-breaking 2017 campaign, James Madison earned three major awards from the Virginia Sports Information Directors for the All-State University Division Softball Team, the organization announced Friday.
Junior pitcher/utility player
Megan Good secured two major awards as she was named VaSID Pitcher and Player of the Year. She is the first student-athlete in VaSID history to win both Pitcher and Player of the Year in the same season. This is the third season in a row that Good has been named VaSID Pitcher of the Year and the second time over her career she has earned multiple major awards by the organization as she was named VaSID Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in 2014.
Last week, Good was named the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I National Player of the Year while earlier this month she became just the second Duke in program history to be named a three-time NFCA All-American.
Â
Good led the nation with 38 victories and 14 shutouts in 2017, finishing the season with a 38-3 overall record. She also finished the year with a James Madison program record 0.63 ERA, the third lowest ERA in the country. Logging 244.2 innings in the circle in 2017, Good finished the year allowing 22 earned runs off of 125 hits, walking 35 batters and striking out 271.
     Â
Equally as dangerous at the plate, Good led the Dukes with a .383 batting average and finished the season with a career-high 69 hits. The Colonial Athletic Association Player and Pitcher of the Year led the conference with 58 RBI, the third-highest mark in program history. She led James Madison with 17 multi-RBI games while ranking second with 19 multi-hit games.

Head Coach
Mickey Dean wrapped up JMU's major awards as he was voted VaSID Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season. Dean has now earned the award seven times over his coaching career with five selections at the helm of James Madison (2013-17) and twice at Radford (2009-10).
The Dukes wrapped up one of their most successful season in program history with a 52-8 overall record, the most wins in a single season in program and CAA history. JMU claimed the 2017 CAA regular-season and tournament championships, the first time in program history that the Dukes have won back-to-back tournament titles. Holding a national ranking throughout the season, JMU ended the year with a No. 18 ranking in both the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 Poll. The Dukes made their fifth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance as JMU made it to the Waco Regional final.
A total of nine Dukes earned VaSID All-State laurels, including six on the first team. In addition to Good, junior first baseman
Morgan Tolle, senior shortstop
Niki Prince, senior third baseman
Madyson Moran, freshman outfielder
Cambry Arnold and senior outfielder
Taylor Newton earned selections to the first team. Freshman catcher
Kierstin Roadcap, freshman second baseman
