HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball finished off the opening weekend of the regular season with a win in straight sets against Rider on Saturday afternoon at the JMU Classic inside Sinclair Gymnasium.

The Dukes (3-0) won the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 to take first place in the four-team tournament. Sacred Heart (1-2), which beat Gardner-Webb (1-2) in the first match, finished in second place.
 MATCH NOTES
JMU used a balanced attack in Saturday's win, as five players tallied at least six kills
Junior Bryn Recker led all players with a match-high 10 kills, finishing the weekend with a JMU-best 30 kills.
Senior Taylor Austin was named tournament MVP after leading the back line with 22 digs, finishing the event with 62 total.
Sophomore Briley Brind'Amour tallied eight kills to wrap up the opening weekend with 27 kills, which was second highest on the team.
Sophomore M'Kaela White earned an All-Tournament Team spot after adding six kills and three blocks in Saturday's win. She finished the weekend with 25 kills and a team-best 11 blocks.
JMU hit .330 as a team, which included a .464 clip in the third and final set. Rider managed just .149 for the match, with only two players recording five or more kills.
UP NEXT
JMU hosts the Tropical Smoothie Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Sinclair Gymnasium. JMU will welcome Cornell, Hampton and Drake to the Shenandoah Valley. The Dukes open play on Friday, Sept. 1 against Cornell at 7 p.m.
