ELON, N.C. – James Madison volleyball stays undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association play after downing Elon, 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 31-29, 25-15), in their first conference road test of the season Saturday afternoon at the Schar Center.
The Dukes (13-3, 5-0 CAA) took an early first-set advantage but fell in the second set. The Phoenix (8-8, 0-5 CAA) put up a fight in the third before taking the four-set loss.
Senior
Bryn Recker registered a match-leading and new season high of 19 kills while junior
Sarah Martin procured a match-high 48 assists. Junior
Sarah Driscoll achieved her third straight 20-dig performance and junior
M'Kaela White put up nine blocks on the game.
GAME NOTES
- With her 19 kills today, Recker has reached 1,000 career points, totaling 1,013.
- Recker added 10 digs for her 12th double-double of 2018. She has now had a double-double in every conference match on the season.
- White tallied 15 kills, hitting a team-high .458, and was one block shy of her first double-double of the season. With her seven digs, she also achieves a new career high.
- With five kills on 13 attempts and only one error, Martin hit .308.
- Driscoll created a new season high after her eight assists in the victory.
- The Dukes hold a 10-0 record when they notch a first-set win.
- This five-game win streak is the longest of the 2018 campaign.
- JMU had five service aces – three coming from
Tilbe Yaglioglu, with
Jacqui Koebel and Martin each adding one.
- The Dukes hit over .300 in two sets - .341 in the third and .435 in the fourth.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Taylor Gail picked up the first point of the match, giving the Dukes the lead that they held until the end of the first set, though Elon knotted the score on five separate occasions.
- The Phoenix jumped ahead early in the second frame, but the Dukes fought to come from behind. Despite JMU taking the lead once after a 4-0 run that included a White kill, Elon finished the set on top.
- The two squads traded points for most of the third set, with neither team emerging as the leader until the very end when Elon made three attack errors straight.
- Once again, the teams began the final set with back-and-forth play before a kill from
Briley Brind'Amour sparked a 6-0 run that brought the lead that Dukes rode to victory.

The Dukes will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to battle William & Mary on Monday, October 8 for a 6 p.m. start before returning home to host College of Charleston on October 12.
