RICHMOND, Va. - James Madison junior guard
Stuckey Mosley was named Third Team All-Colonial Athletic Association, while freshman guards
Matt Lewis and
Darius Banks were each named to the CAA All-Rookie Team, as announced by the league on Friday afternoon.
Â
Mosley was stellar in his first season in a JMU uniform, averaging 18.6 points per contest, the fourth-highest average in the league, while adding 4.5 rebounds per game and starting all 31 contests for the Dukes. His 577 points in 2017-18 are already seventh-most in a season in JMU program history and his 84 three-pointers are fifth-most in the single-season record book.
Â
Lewis turned in an outstanding inaugural season of his own, averaging 17.7 points in CAA contests, most of any freshman in the league and 11th-most of any CAA player, to go with 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in league play. In JMU's Division I history, only William Davis (1988-89) and Steve Stielper (1976-77) scored and averaged more points across their freshman seasons than Lewis' 448 and 14.5, respectively.
Â
Banks posted his own freshman campaign for the record books, starting 29 of his 31 games in his first season on campus, stuffing the stat sheet with 10.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the field. Banks was a force on the defensive end, tallying 11 blocks, third-most on the team, to go with an eye-popping 48 steals on the season, second-most in the CAA and just four behind Andre Nation's JMU freshman single-season record.
Â
Lewis and Banks' plaudits mark the first time that the Dukes have garnered two All-Rookie selections in the same season since
Devon Moore and
Julius Wells each grabbed the honor for the 2008-09 campaign.
Â
Hofstra junior guard Justin Wright-Foreman was named the CAA Player of the Year, while Northeastern head coach Bill Coen was named CAA Coach of the Year.
Â
The ninth-seeded Dukes will open their CAA Tournament on Saturday evening, when they take on No. 8 Drexel at 4 p.m. in the event's opening game. Live video coverage will be provided by CAA.tv.
