HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison could not slow down George Mason's bats as the Dukes dropped a 7-1 decision on Wednesday night in non-conference baseball action at Eagle Field.
Â
The Patriots (15-20) snapped JMU's (20-17) five-game winning streak and evened the season series at one apiece.
Â
Freshman Josh Jones racked up the sole RBI in a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Sophomore Fox Semones added a 2-for-4 outing with a run scored.
Â
Junior Garrett Richards suffered the loss on the mound, moving to 0-1 on the season after tossing 2 1/3 innings with giving up two runs on five hits.
Â
James Madison's sole run came in the sixth inning, when Jones hit a RBI-single to right field that scored Semones from second to make it a 6-1 game. Mason added its final run in the seventh off a double to right field.
Â
QUOTING COACH IKE
"We got down early and tried to battle back but Mason kept extending their lead. I thought our bullpen did an outstanding job, but we cannot give up 0-2 and 1-2 count hits with two outs. I was proud of the way we played defense today and I thought we had some pretty good at-bats throughout the game, we just couldn't manufacture any runs."
Â
UP NEXT
James Madison will travel to Newark, Del., for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. against Delaware. Games two and three will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday each.
